Shampoo containing methylisothiazolinone – Can it affect your nerves

Methylisothiazolinone – what is it and can it affect me?

Methylisothiazolinone is otherwise known as MIT.

What is it in?

MIT Hideouts

  • Shampoo (Head and Shoulders, Suave, Clairol)
  • Pantene hair conditioner
  • Revlon hair color
  • Hand lotions
  • Paint

When taking a shower, it is doubtful the thought, “How is this shampoo affecting my nerves ?” ever comes to mind. Though perhaps more people should pay attention to the products they are using on a daily basis, as some contain a potentially dangerous chemical, methylisothiazolinone (MIT), which may have detrimental effects on the nervous system. While the purpose of MIT is to prevent bacteria from developing, researchers found that contact with it restricted growth of axons and dendrites of immature nerves found in rat brain cells. The rat studies also showed that chronic exposure to this chemical led to a malfunction in the way neurons communicate with one another. One researcher explained that direct exposure to high concentrations of MIT would irritate the skin because it can damage skin cells. Yet since the chemical only affects the cells it comes in contact with, there is no way the chemical can get into the bloodstream and go to the brain.

Based on their findings, researchers concluded that people working directly with MIT are the most at risk; however, additional tests still must be administered in order to determine if MIT is harmful to humans in the concentrations found in household products.

Is there reason to examine what we are using every day.  Certainly.  That’s why I became an Arbonne distributor.  I worked for ICI Australia for 14 years and saw first hand the nasty nature of chemicals.

Arbonne is Pure, Safe, Beneficial using the best nature can provide and the least chemicals that man produces.

Cremation – Questions people want answers to

People often ask – Do you get the ashes of your loved ones back?

The short answer is yes.

The more correct answer is yes, but there are microscopic parts of many other remains included in the final package of cremated remains (or ashes as they are commonly known).

You see, a cremator is an industrial oven.  Albeit that it applies heat to very precious matter, that is, the body of someone who has died.

What cremation does is reduce to ashes in 75 minutes what normally takes nature several years to do in the ground.  At the end of the process the ashes are scraped from the furnace floor and place into a tray to cool down from the 800 degrees Celsius inside the oven.  But there is no way to get every scrap of remains from the furnace floor.  So there will be microscopic parts of the several cremations beforehand included in the remains of the last person to be cremated.

Of the crematoriums of have visited in the world, all take reasonable steps to identify all sets of ashes and keep accurate records of all movements.  However, that does not totally eliminate the possibility that cremated remains (ashes) get mixed up, lost, labelled incorrectly or some other inventive way that humans create via mistakes.

Have I ever seen mistakes made.  “Yes” but not intentionally.

David Cassidy’s wife overcomes skin condition

David Cassidy’s wife reports:

“One of the reasons I’ve had so much trouble signing autographs and shaking hands in the past is because I have had a horrible condition on my hands that caused them to crack, bleed and cause me tremendous pain. And then Sue brought me an amazing group of products that virtually cured my symptoms.”

“I feel compelled to tell you about this. Sometimes, something happens and you feel that you just have to share it with people. Most people –except the closest ones to me – haven’t known about the pain, embarrassment and self consciousness I have experienced associated with this condition.”

“Those of you who have been fans of mine from the beginning know that I have never been an advocate for or recommended products of any kind in the past. It’s just not my style.”

“Well… a few months ago, after coming off the road from a number of concert performances, I experienced a recurrence of this very painful and ugly skin condition on my hands.”

“Since I am a skeptic by nature, and having tried so many prescriptions and various remedies, Sue practically forced me to try 2 products when I got home called Intelligence Hand Cream and Intelligence Conditioning Oil.”

“I, of course, rolled my eyes and thought-“Ok- I’ll humor her”, but, remarkably, in 5 days of using these 2 products- for the first time in my life- the condition completely cleared up and my hands were healed.”

“I have suffered from cracking, bleeding and peeling skin on my hands for years. It had become so painful that often it was almost impossible to play my guitar. The frustration and pain as well as the embarrassment of the way my hands looked had become almost intolerable.”

“So, kids… I became extremely interested in finding out who manufactured these products. I learned that the company, Arbonne International, has been around for nearly 30 years, although I had never heard of it before. The products are formulated in Switzerland and manufactured in the USA. It is a “green” company, the products botanically based and the company has no animal testing and uses no animal by-products- and you all know my love for animals.”

“Sue did extensive research on my behalf and purchased a number of other skin, hair and body products. Now, our whole house has become “Arbonnized” and I’m telling you that this stuff is fantastic! All I know is, it really works for us and for our friends who have tried it.”

“Sue became so enthusiastic after seeing the results I had, researching the company and using the products, that she has now started her own Arbonne business. She has completely thrown herself into this because she is blown away.”

“As fate would have it, Arbonne just opened their business in the U.K. on November 4th, having just recently become available in Canada and Australia.”

“Sue is planning several trips to help educate people and assist them in opening their own Arbonne businesses and I will be accompanying her on some of them, as my schedule allows. That’s how much I believe in this!”

“I hope that what I have shared with you about my own personal experience and my opinion of these products is helpful to you or anyone you may know who suffers as I did. I certainly can’t guarantee results for you. All I know is what I’ve experienced and it would have been selfish of me not to share the information with you.”

“These products are not just for problems, though. Arbonne has tons of stuff for everyone from the cradle to the grave, and I gotta tell you that Sue’s skin has never been softer and she has never looked better. Even Beau is using it!”

Liquid Hand Soap Under Scrutiny

Miami Herald 2005

o       Based on a study conducted by the Environmental Working Group, some products that are under close scrutiny by the FDA include:

·        Liquid hand soap, which may contain ingredients suspected of raising the risk of breast and skin cancers

·        Mascara, which can contain ingredients linked or potentially linked to cancer

·        Hair dye, which can contain coal tar, which has been linked to bladder cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

·         Important factors that companies often leave out of product testing include the possibility the product may cause cancer or birth defects

The FDA has maintained a hands-off approach to performing any kinds of tests on cosmetics and toiletries prior to when they reach the market shelves. An independent panel of experts appointed by the cosmetic industry performs the only regulation that is done.

Care Man Skin _ An introduction to Men’s Skin Care

Guy’s – Are you caring for your skin?

It’s no longer cool to be the tough bronzed macho man.  The new age thinking is that men, like women, need to take better care of their skin.  No longer can we think that men are invincible and for example,  ”Never get skin Cancer”.

But how can we take take of our skin and yet feel good about ourselves?

It’s about what we put on our skin.  Chemical companies for many years have been making healthy profits out of selling us “soap” and hoodwinking us into thinking that just any old soap will do.  Is it any wonder that more and more people, men in particular, are suffering from various skin problems.

In this site I want to make you aware of the “nasties” that are used to make you feel good but do just the opposite.  Their will be several articles that I will review and that you can make use of in reviewing the products that you apply to your skin.  Why is that important?  Because your skin is unique to you and it’s the largest organ you have.  It’s porous and what you put on it either lets in the good stuff or the bad stuff.  Oh, and some substances actually prevent anything from getting into your body at all.

You will find lots of articles about understanding and identifying the connection between toxins and disease. This requires a full understanding of how the human body works.  I can only but touch the tip of the iceburg and must also tell you that I am not a professional person either

But my intention is to give you what I know and let you make up your own mind.

The first test is simple:  Read the label on the products you are using. Ask these questions.

What are each of the ingredients and what can I find out about them?
2 Is the ingredient a natural product or is it chemically based?
3 Does the ingredient have a petrochemical base?
4 What are the known toxic effects of this ingredient?

Here is a release from …
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Press Conference – March 21, 2001
The first ever nationwide report to measure levels of environmental chemicals in the bodies of Americans has found unexpectedly high levels of compounds used in some types of soap, shampoo, and other products. The study found surprisingly high levels of chemicals called phthalatesin some people. Animal studies suggest that long-term exposure to phthalates, also found in hairsprays, nail polish, and flexible plastic products, can cause organ damage and other harmful effects. Whether long-term exposure is harmful to humans is being studied by government agencies. Exposure to phthalates appears to be higher than previously believed. Other studies of environmental chemicals have relied on measuring levels in the air, water or soil. The current report measured blood and urine levels of 27 chemicals in a sample of about 5,000 Americans during 1999. The CDC report suggests that the scientific models of exposure that we use generally underestimates the public’s real-world exposure. This report should serve as a wake-up call — Americans (and by implication other social groups) are clearly being exposed to an array of toxic chemicals — many of which can and probably should be avoided. Every family in America should be taking note of this unprecedented information and should be asking for more of it.

So, you can see there is plenty to write about.
